MITTA receives Blue Seal
The company advances in the clean production agreement and obtains the Blue Seal for batteries.
The certification confirms MITTA's intention to implement the best environmental practices in all its processes in the short term.
The achievement of this standard, on July 30, means that MITTA, Operative Leasing and Rent a Car, complies 100% with the requirements for certification of responsible battery management, according to an audit by the Sustainability and Climate Change Agency. dependent on CORFO. As a consequence, it is consistent, in all its operations and MITTA branches, with the Clean Production Agreement, to which it voluntarily ascribed in 2018.
"This action reflects a proactive vision of MITTA, to continuously improve the reduction of emissions, responsible management of waste and good environmental practices, which tend to productivity and competitiveness," says Renatte Arauz, National Head of Prevention and Environment of the company.
Likewise, it is important to indicate that the company coordinates the final destination of the batteries with the specialized company Ecovalor, who remove and recycle the batteries, a transformation that consists of separating the components and processing them to create a completely new one.
Contribution to the Environment
For 3 years, the company, together with a group of organizations in the field, came together to comply with Law 20.920, which introduces the Extended Producer Responsibility (REP) which obliges manufacturers and importers to take charge of life. useful of "priority products" such as batteries. Within this framework, the company decides to ascribe to the Clean Production Agreement (APL) an environmental instrument managed by the National Council for Clean Production, which aims to promote good practices. As a result of this work, in particular the handling of disused batteries, the company accredits 100% compliance with the APL for this element.
“The process, which lasted 3 years, consisted mainly of informing and sensitizing the collaborators throughout the MITTA sites and branches throughout Chile, work that had the objective of knowing how to manage the batteries so that they are removed by Ecovalor. What makes us feel that we are contributing from our industry, to a more careful production with the Environment ”, concludes Fernando Gálvez, Deputy Manager of Logistics and leader of the project.
